On the Joint Reliability Importance for k-out-of-n Systems

author

Abstract:

‎In this paper‎, ‎the concept of joint reliability importance (JRI) of two or groups of components in a coherent system with independent components have been studied‎. ‎The JRI is defined as the rate at which the system reliability improves as the reliabilities‎ ‎of the two or groups of components improve‎. ‎Generally‎, ‎the sign and the value of the JRI represent the type and the‎ ‎degree of interactions between components with respect to systems reliability‎.

Joint Reliability Importance of k-out-of-n Systems and Series-Parallel Systems

Joint Reliability Importance (JRI) is a measurement of the degree of interactions between two components in a system. The value of JRI is non-positive (non-negative) if and only if one component becomes more important when the other has failed (is functioning). In this paper, we study the properties of JRI of the k-out-of-n system, where the system works if there are at least k functioning comp...

Dispersive Ordering and k-out-of-n Systems

Extended Abstract. The simplest and the most common way of comparing two random variables is through their means and variances. It may happen that in some cases the median of X is larger than that of Y, while the mean of X is smaller than the mean of Y. However, this confusion will not arise if the random variables are stochastically ordered. Similarly, the same may happen if one would like to ...

Redundancy allocation problem for k-out-of-n systems with a choice of redundancy strategies

To increase the reliability of a specific system, using redundant components is a common method which is called redundancy allocation problem (RAP). Some of the RAP studies have focused on k-out-of-n systems. However, all of these studies assumed predetermined active or standby strategies for each subsystem. In this paper, for the first time, we propose a k-out-of-<em...

Reliability Analysis of K-Out-Of N: G Machining Systems with Mixed Spares and Multiple Modes of Failure (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper deals with the transient analysis of K-out-of-N: G system consisting of Noperatingmachines. To improve system reliability, Y cold standby and S warm standbys spares areprovided to replace the failed machines. The machines are assumed to fail in multiple modes. At leastK-out-of-N machines for smooth functioning of the system. Reliability and mean time to failure areestablished in term...

An Efficient Algorithm for Computing the Reliability of Consecutive-k-Out-Of-n: F Systems

Many algorithms for computing the reliability of linear or circular consecutive-k-out-of-n:F systems appeared in this Transactions. The best complexity estimate obtained for solving this problem is O(k log(n/k)) operations in the case of i.i.d. components. Using fast algorithms for computing a selected term of a linear recurrence with constant coefficients, we provide an algorithm having arithm...
